The Friends of a Free, Stable and Democratic Syria Caucus is the first congressional caucus to support a free Syria and currently has 50 bipartisan members. Caucus co-chairs Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) and Rep. Brendan Boyle (D-PA) announced the caucus on June 26, 2017. The caucus serves as a forum for members of Congress to discuss the conflict and tragedy in Syria, debate policy ideas with experts and key personnel, and ultimately come together to advance national and international efforts to bring justice and accountability to Syria.
Americans for a Free Syria (AFS) has played a key role in promoting and supporting the caucus since its inception. AFS has served as the top resource for educating caucus members about the situation on the ground in Syria. AFS further hosted a congressional reception in 2017 in which over 20 members came to speak to their constituents, supporting for the first time the goals embodied by the Caucus.
